Drive belt replacement in Helsinki
We replace drive belts (auxiliary belts) and their tensioners on passenger cars and small vans. If the belt squeals, we check the whole belt drive – the fault is not always in the belt itself.

The prices are labour prices from our previous jobs. A belt usually costs 15–30 €. No extra work is done without your approval.
Prices include VAT at 25.5%.
When should the drive belt be replaced?
The drive belt drives the alternator, the air-conditioning compressor and, on many cars, the power steering pump. Replacement is due when:
- the belt has cracks or is fraying
- the belt squeals, especially in the cold or rain
- the belt runs unevenly or wobbles
- the manufacturer’s service schedule requires it
- the timing belt is being replaced

We check the whole belt driveThe noise may come from the tensioner, an idler pulley or the alternator freewheel pulley. A new belt will not remove the fault in that case.
Tensioner at the same timeIf the tensioner is worn, it is worth replacing at the same time – otherwise the new belt wears out quickly.

How much does drive belt replacement cost?
Labour usually costs 42.50–85 € (0.5–1 hour). If the tensioner or an idler pulley is replaced at the same time, the price is from 85 €. A belt usually costs 15–30 €. We tell you the exact price based on the registration number.
Why does the drive belt squeal?
The cause may be a worn or stretched belt, a weak tensioner, a worn idler pulley, the alternator freewheel pulley or moisture. That is why we check the whole belt drive before replacing parts.
What happens if the drive belt breaks?
The alternator stops charging, the air conditioning does not work and on many cars the steering becomes heavy. On some engines, pieces of the belt can end up in the timing end area and cause further damage. If the belt breaks, we first find the cause before fitting a new one.
Does the tensioner need replacing at the same time?
If the tensioner is worn, its spring has weakened or the pulley is noisy, yes. A weak tensioner wears out a new belt quickly.
Is the drive belt replaced together with the timing belt?
Yes. The drive belt is removed anyway during a timing belt replacement, and replacing it is included in our timing belt replacement prices.
How often is the drive belt replaced?
According to the manufacturer’s service schedule or when the belt shows wear. In Finland frost and moisture harden the rubber, so the condition of the belt is worth checking during servicing.
Which parts do you use?
We use quality belts and tensioners from well-known manufacturers such as Continental, Gates and INA.
Can I bring my own belt?
Yes. We are responsible for the quality of the fitting work, but we cannot give a warranty on the quality or durability of parts you bring yourself.
