there is play in the outer end or the inner tie rod
there is knocking on uneven roads
there is more play than normal in the steering
the joint boot is damaged
the fault was found at the inspection or during a chassis inspection
Not sure what the fault is?
Start with a chassis inspection
Inspection 20 €A chassis inspection often already shows which part is faulty. Chassis inspection
Quote before the workWe tell you the parts and the labour price before the repair.
The inspection entry does not always point to the right part
The inspection report may say, for example: “Play in e.g. the inner end of the tie rod. Check the other steering parts as well.” It tells you there is play in the steering – not always which part needs replacing.
the play may be in the outer end or the inner tie rod
or in the steering rack itself
or in another steering or suspension part
that is why replacing the inner tie rod without an inspection does not always remove the problem
How the source of the play is found
Two steps
1. Chassis inspection 20 €In many cases the faulty part can be seen without dismantling.
2. Check under the bootMax. 42.50 €: the boot is removed and the inner tie rod and steering rack are checked separately.
Then the repairWe know whether the tie rod is replaced or the play is in the steering rack. Steering rack replacement
Four-wheel alignment after the replacement
After replacing an outer tie rod end or an inner tie rod, a four-wheel alignment must be done.
the parts directly affect the toe angle of the wheels
even if the new part is fitted in the same position as the old one, this does not guarantee the correct toe angle or steering wheel position
that is why the wheel angles are adjusted after the repair
In pairs?
Usually only the faulty side
Not preventivelyIf there is no play in the part on the opposite side, it does not usually need replacing.

Frequently asked questions
How much does tie rod end replacement cost?
Outer tie rod end replacement from 42.50 € / side and inner tie rod replacement from 85 € / side. Parts and four-wheel alignment (79 €) are charged separately.
Does a four-wheel alignment have to be done?
Yes. The tie rod directly affects the toe angle, so the wheel angles must be adjusted after every replacement.
Do the parts need replacing in pairs?
Usually not. If there is no play in the part on the other side, it does not need replacing preventively.
The inspection failed the tie rod – is it replaced straight away?
The inspection entry tells you there is play in the steering, but the play may also be in the steering rack. We check the source first so that you do not pay for the wrong part.
Which parts do you recommend?
Quality parts, for example FAG, Febi or Lemförder. The cheapest parts often wear quickly in Finnish conditions – road salt and large temperature differences.
