When should the battery be checked?

Symptoms of a weakened battery can include, for example:

  • slow or difficult starting
  • low voltage or warnings in the instrument cluster
  • problems after the car has been standing for a long time
  • the battery running flat quickly

Battery testing

A quick check is not an accurate battery test

Quick check 10 €A tester is connected to the car and we see how the voltage behaves. Quick, but indicative.
Accurate battery testA reliable result can only be obtained when the battery is disconnected from the car’s system and fully charged before the test.
The fault is not always in the batteryThe same symptoms can be caused by the alternator, a current drain or another fault in the electrical system.

The right battery for this car

When replacing a battery it is important to use a battery that suits the car. We choose it based on the car’s details and registration number.

  • Start-Stop cars often use AGM or EFB batteries – they are not replaced with a conventional battery without a technical reason
  • we take into account the capacity, cold cranking current, dimensions and polarity
  • we follow the car manufacturer’s requirements

Registration and adaptation

We tell the car that the battery has been replaced

Which carsMany BMW, MINI, Audi, Volkswagen, Škoda, Mercedes-Benz and other newer cars.
WhyThe charging system takes the properties and age of the new battery into account.
Not always neededOn many cars a normal battery replacement does not require separate registration.

Hybrids and electric cars

We also replace and service the 12 V batteries of hybrids and electric cars.

  • the work concerns the car’s low-voltage system
  • we do not repair or replace high-voltage traction batteries

Battery running flat quickly?

The cause may be in the charging

A new battery runs flatStart with a quick charging check (10 €) – it shows whether the alternator is charging.
Deeper diagnosticsDiagnostics for a current drain or wiring are estimated separately, 85 €/h.

Frequently asked questions

How much does battery replacement cost?

When the battery is bought from us, a normal replacement is 20 €. Fitting your own battery is 42.50 €. Coding costs an extra 20 €, and on VW Group cars built from around 2020 SFD unlocking is 30 €. If the battery is in an awkward place, the work is charged by the hour at 85 €/h.

Does a battery always need registering?

No. Whether registration is needed depends on the car’s charging and energy management system. We tell you whether your car needs it.

What is SFD locking?

SFD is the Volkswagen Group’s diagnostic protection, used on Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda, SEAT and CUPRA cars built from around 2020. The protection has to be unlocked before battery coding, and unlocking costs 30 €. Older cars do not need SFD unlocking.

Can I fit a conventional battery in place of an AGM battery?

Not without a technical reason. On Start-Stop cars the AGM or EFB battery has been chosen according to the requirements of the system.

Do you replace the battery of an electric car?

We replace the 12 V batteries of hybrids and electric cars. We do not repair or replace high-voltage traction batteries.
