Spring replacement in Helsinki

We replace front and rear springs on passenger cars and small vans. A spring can break because of corrosion, metal fatigue or wear – sometimes only the top or bottom coil, in which case you will not notice the fault without an inspection on the lift. We recommend replacing springs on the same axle in pairs.

Allow a whole day for the jobReplacing the front springs usually takes 2.5–3 hours. It is best to bring the car in the morning and leave it with us – waiting on site does not make sense.
  • Front springs, labour 212.50–255 €
  • Rear springs, labour from 85 €
  • Four-wheel alignment if needed 79 €

Replacing air springs and bellows, and diagnosing and servicing the air suspension system.

Prices include VAT at 25.5%.

When does a spring need replacing?

Replacement may be due if you notice any of these:

  • the spring is broken or its top or bottom coil is damaged
  • the car sits lower on one side
  • there is a metallic knocking or clicking from the suspension
  • the spring is heavily rusted
  • the fault was found at the inspection

If you are not sure of the cause of the fault, start with a chassis inspection (20 €).

When replacing the front springs

What is worth replacing at the same time?

At the front, the spring, shock absorber, top mount and bearing usually form the same strut. Once it has been dismantled, replacing these parts does not usually mean separate extra work. At the rear the springs and shock absorbers are often separate – in that case it is a different job, priced separately.

Top mounts and bearingsWe strongly recommend it, especially on higher-mileage cars – the rubber parts compress and the bearings start to stick. On some cars the replacement is practically essential: for example, on Volkswagen, Škoda and SEAT models from around 2010 the top mount bolts often break during dismantling and reconditioning the mount does not make sense – in that case the mount is replaced anyway.
Shock absorbers and rubbersAt your discretion: based on their condition, the age of the car and your wishes. We do not replace parts automatically.
Lowering springs at the same time?If the springs are being replaced anyway, you might consider lowering springs – see car lowering.

Frequently asked questions

Why is it worth replacing springs in pairs?

We recommend replacing the springs on the same axle at the same time. An old spring has settled, so a new and an old one can differ in height and stiffness. If one spring has already broken, the other one of the same age is often in the same condition.

Replacing a single spring is possible – the decision is made based on the condition of the other side.

Is it worth choosing quality springs?

Yes. Finnish conditions put more strain on suspension parts than, for example, in Central Europe: cold winters, warm summers, large temperature swings and road salt in winter. Quality parts last clearly longer here than budget parts, because quality manufacturers also test their parts in conditions like these – budget manufacturers do not.

Is a four-wheel alignment needed after replacing springs?

Depending on the suspension design and the work, an alignment may be needed – especially after a front axle repair or fitting lowering springs, if the steering wheel is not straight or the tyres have worn unevenly.

See four-wheel alignment (79 €).

What is checked on air suspension?

Depending on the fault, for example the air springs and bellows, the compressor, air lines and connections, air leaks, the ride height control and the suspension system fault codes. Air suspension differs in design from steel spring suspension, so the price is estimated separately.
